The prescribed work

  1. Visit the specified church during the officially celebrated Jacobean Holy Year corresponding to Santiago de Compostela.
  2. Use one of the rescript’s occasions: the inauguration or closing of that Holy Year; once within that Holy Year on a freely chosen day; or whenever participating in an organized devotional pilgrimage to the church.
  3. During the visit, devoutly attend a sacred function OR pray at least the Our Father and Creed.
  4. Fulfil the ordinary plenary conditions.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Duration varies

Length of the organized devotional pilgrimage and visit prayers

No fixed minute minimum or walking distance is specified. Required pilgrimage activity is included; a short prayer estimate alone does not time this route.

Timing sources
What the time estimate excludes
  • Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work; required pilgrimage activity remains included
  • Separate confession and preparation; Communion and prayers are included when part of the qualifying celebration

Occasion and source notes

A standing recurring concession does not make this work available during ordinary years. Consult the church’s announced Jacobean programme.

The complete Spanish rescript transcription is followed, corroborated by the diocese’s archived operative directions and its later confirmation of perpetuity. The original signed rescript has not been inspected. The once-chosen day belongs to each qualifying Holy Year, not to every calendar year; a private visit on every day is not claimed. Opening/closing denotes the qualifying occasion; the published work permits either a sacred function or the stated prayers.

Prayer texts and resources

Follow the prayer count and formula specified in the requirements. The two Creed readers are alternatives.
