The prescribed work

  1. Visit on 25 March, 24 April, 24 September, or the first Sunday of July when the summer festival takes place; alternatively, visit once a year on a personally chosen day or whenever taking part in a group pilgrimage to the shrine.
  2. In the shrine or adjacent basilica, participate devoutly in a sacred function or at least recite the Our Father and a profession of faith.
  3. Fulfil the ordinary plenary conditions.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Occasion and source notes

25 March is the arrival anniversary of the shrine’s image: the shrine explicitly retained this indulgence on Monday of Holy Week in 2024. It is therefore not automatically transferred with the Annunciation. Observe any lawful local transfer of the other liturgical celebrations; the first Sunday of July presumes the announced summer festival. For the dated church or oratory visit, Norm 14 permits the visit from noon on the preceding day until midnight ending the observance. Follow the actual local observance and access hours; any required celebration, membership and frequency limits still apply. If using an allowed prayer or meditation alternative, complete that alternative; an early visit does not substitute for attendance at a rite when the rite is the chosen work.

The shrine’s current directions explicitly attribute this standing concession to the Pope and were reaffirmed in its 2026 centenary FAQ. The original rescript and its date have not been recovered; no claim of an expressly perpetual term is made. The separate proposed 2026 centenary concession is not included here.
