The prescribed work

  1. Be a member of the Association.
  2. On the qualifying occasion, express or renew, at least interiorly, the intention faithfully to observe the Association’s statutes.
  3. The statutes specify three repetitions of Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for the Pope’s intentions, with confession and Communion within two weeks.
  4. Fulfil the ordinary plenary dispositions.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Actual enrollment, statutory intention and prescribed prayers

Complete the prescribed event

Full rite or event; duration varies

Complete actual enrollment and express or renew at least interiorly the intention to observe the statutes, together with the prescribed prayers. The grant sets no fixed number of minutes; enrollment duration varies.

Timing sources

Qualifying feast: statutory intention and three each of Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be

Editorial estimate

About 3–7 minutes (editorial estimate)

The estimate covers the interior statutory intention and all three repetitions of each prayer. Neither source prescribes a number of minutes; the two-week sacramental window is not the work’s duration.

Timing sources
What the time estimate excludes
  • Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work
  • Separate fulfillment of the usual plenary conditions, except prayers or Mass expressly included in the branch.

Occasion and source notes

Dates show customary Roman or proper religious-family celebrations. Follow lawful liturgical transfers and the grant’s own local calendar. Membership, place, frequency and other conditions remain necessary.

The current approved statutes, Article 7 and its footnotes, supply the occasions and prayer count shown here. The complete 27 October 1995 decree, reproduced in Vincentiana, also expressly requires at least interior intention to observe the statutes. Its older feast list includes the Virgin Queen and the association’s foundation anniversary but omits St Louise; these lists are not combined. The current statutes explain that the older Novena and Miraculous Medal association names were brought together in 1998. Their different occasion lists require clarification before any additional dates are asserted.
