The prescribed work

  1. Devoutly visit the sanctuary on one of the granted occasions. There participate in a sacred celebration or devotional exercise honoring Christ the King, or spend a suitable period in pious contemplation.
  2. For the contemplation alternative, conclude with the Our Father, Creed, Act of Consecration of the Human Race to Christ the King, and invocations of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  3. Fulfil the ordinary plenary conditions.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Group pilgrimage: religious celebration or devotional exercise

Complete the prescribed event

Group pilgrimage, participation in the qualifying rite; duration varies

Participate in the actual qualifying celebration or devotional exercise in honor of Christ the King. The decree specifies the concluding prayers for the separate contemplation alternative. No numerical duration is prescribed. The actual group pilgrimage is part of this route; its duration varies.

Group pilgrimage: mental prayer and all prescribed concluding prayers

Duration varies

Group pilgrimage, a suitable time in mental prayer and all prescribed concluding prayers

The decree expressly requires a suitable time, but supplies no number of minutes. No invented numeric minimum or total estimate is substituted for that qualitative requirement. The actual group pilgrimage is part of this route; its timing varies and is not replaced by the prayers alone.

Occasion and source notes

Dates show customary Roman or proper religious-family celebrations. Follow lawful liturgical transfers and the grant’s own local calendar. Membership, place, frequency and other conditions remain necessary. The grant names the sanctuary as the place of the work. Its public directions identify the Chapel of Our Lady of Peace, but do not establish that every qualifying sanctuary visit is a church or oratory visit within Norm 14. A preceding-noon opening is therefore not projected here; follow the sanctuary’s competent directions for the actual place and occasion.

Prayer texts and resources

Follow the prayer count and formula specified in the requirements. The two Creed readers are alternatives.

Prayer texts and grants have separate source histories. Consult the grant source for the prescribed work, occasion, and conditions.
