The prescribed work
- Make an actual pilgrimage to Lourdes with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospitality North American Volunteers; this particular grant does not cover every independently organized Lourdes journey.
- Fulfill the usual plenary conditions, including complete detachment from sin.
- Pray for the Pope’s intentions; the association’s directions give the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be.
The work and its conditions
A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.
Conditions common to every indulgence
The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

The prescribed work is the actual organized pilgrimage; consult its itinerary. The institutional directions prescribe no number of minutes or days, nor a separate every-minute attendance threshold. A brief prayer alone does not establish participation in this pilgrimage.

Occasion and source notes
The current public association’s directions and official pamphlet establish these ordinary routes and their exact term; the signed rescript was not recovered. A separate pandemic-only concession for internet, television or radio broadcasts is not asserted to remain in effect. Donation is not an indulgence condition.
