The prescribed work

  1. Go devoutly to the Archconfraternity’s Scoletta Oratory on a specified occasion.
  2. There, participate in a sacred celebration, or at least devoutly recite the Our Father and Creed, as the rescript’s express alternatives provide.
  3. Fulfill the usual plenary conditions, including complete detachment from sin.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Participation in the sacred celebration; duration varies

The rescript expressly permits a sacred celebration as an alternative to the named-prayer route. No fixed duration is prescribed; follow the actual celebration’s schedule. The original rescript uses participation language without a separate every-minute attendance threshold.

Editorial estimate

About 5–15 minutes at the church (editorial estimate)

No fixed minimum is prescribed. About 5–15 minutes is an editorial estimate for the visit and short prayers; devotion, the complete prayers, and the specified place remain necessary.
