The prescribed work

  1. Be enrolled in the Pious Union’s register at the Arenzano shrine. Membership duties include wearing its medal and daily prayer to the Infant Jesus.
  2. Visit the Shrine of the Infant Jesus at Arenzano; if prevented, visit another church.
  3. During the indulgenced church visit, pray an Our Father and the Creed under the general rule in Norm 19.
  4. Firmly renew the intention to fulfill the Pious Union’s commitments.
  5. Fulfill the usual plenary conditions: sacramental confession, Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and complete detachment from every sin, including venial sin.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Occasion and source notes

Ascension and Annunciation follow lawful local transfers. The annual September solemnity is separate from monthly celebrations, for which this source states no additional indulgence. Annunciation, St Joseph and Immaculate Conception use standard Roman transfer rules where listed. The applicable local or proper calendar, lawful external solemnity and any specific indult govern the actual observance. For the dated church or oratory visit, Norm 14 permits the visit from noon on the preceding day until midnight ending the observance. Follow the actual local observance and access hours; any required celebration, membership and frequency limits still apply.

Prayer texts and resources

Follow the prayer count and formula specified in the requirements. The two Creed readers are alternatives.
