The prescribed work

  1. Visit a parish church in the Diocese of Thái Bình during its annual Eucharistic adoration week, as designated by the bishop.
  2. Make a pilgrimage to the designated church and there devoutly take part in the jubilee rites, or spend suitable time in prayer.
  3. For the prayer alternative, pray for Vietnam’s fidelity to its Christian vocation, priestly and religious vocations, and the protection of the institution of the family; conclude with the Our Father, Creed and an invocation to Mary, Queen of Peace.
  4. Fulfil the usual conditions, including complete detachment from sin.
  5. Confirm the parish’s actual designated week and program. The bishop invites each parish to arrange a day of retreat, reconciliation and Mass during that week; this is not an unrestricted year-round grant at every parish.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Duration of the pilgrimage and jubilee rites

No fixed numerical minimum is prescribed. Include the actual pilgrimage activity and celebration; a parish’s eligible adoration week is an availability window, not a seven-day work requirement.

Duration of the pilgrimage and suitable prayer

The decree requires suitable prayer time but gives no number of minutes. The concluding prayers alone do not replace the pilgrimage and suitable prayer.

Occasion and source notes

The published diocesan translation offers jubilee rites and suitable prayer as alternatives, placing the listed intercessions and concluding prayers in the prayer clause. Norm 19 requires the Our Father and Creed for an indulgenced church visit unless the concession provides otherwise. The original Latin has not been independently recovered here, so follow the diocese’s instructions for the particular rite. The translation does not explicitly state an additional prayer obligation on the rite route.

Prayer texts and resources

Follow the prayer count and formula specified in the requirements. The two Creed readers are alternatives.
