The prescribed work

  1. Unite your heart with the spiritual aims of the 2025 Jubilee, in penitence and love; make a pilgrimage to an eligible church, chapel or shrine.
  2. There, participate in jubilee prayers or spend time in contemplation and prayer honoring God. Pray for peace and unity among peoples and the overcoming of contemporary errors.
  3. Pray the Our Father, Creed, and an invocation to Mary as Queen of Peace and Mother of Mercy; fulfil the usual conditions.
  4. The elderly, sick, their carers and those unable to leave home for a grave reason may instead unite spiritually with the jubilee celebrations, offering prayers, suffering and life’s difficulties to God. Renounce every sin and intend to fulfil the usual conditions as soon as possible.
  5. The institute’s initial pastoral summary additionally lists an act of penance and charity; the full published decree translation specifies the pilgrimage/prayer and impeded-person routes above.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.
