The prescribed work

  1. Visit individually or with a group, with the express intention of obtaining the indulgence; participate devoutly in jubilee rites or spend suitable time in meditation.
  2. For the meditation alternative, conclude with the Our Father, Creed and a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Fulfil the usual plenary conditions; the bishop’s decree includes Eucharistic participation and Communion.
  3. Elderly or sick people and those otherwise legitimately prevented for a grave reason from leaving home or praying before the venerated image may, with complete detachment from sin, unite spiritually with the jubilee celebrations through radio, television or the internet, recite the Our Father, Creed and a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary before another image of Saint Francis Solano, and intend to fulfil the usual sacramental and prayer conditions as soon as possible. They must also offer their prayers and sufferings to merciful God for the conversion of sinners and the spread of Christ’s Kingdom throughout the earth.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.
