Confraternity of St Peter admission and patronal feasts
FSSP’s current bulletin confirms three occasions for members of its prayer confraternity.
Time required Actual enrollment varies; the two feast-day routes require a brief mental renewal of the membership commitment, with no fixed duration prescribed.
- When
- Admission; Chair of St Peter (22 February, observing any lawful transfer); Sts Peter and Paul (29 June).
- Where
- No special location is prescribed by this membership grant.
- Who
- Enrolled Catholic members of the Confraternity of St Peter, age 14 or older
- Application
- Self or the departed
The prescribed work
- Be enrolled in the Confraternity and fulfil the ordinary plenary conditions.
- On the two annual feasts, renew mentally and at least privately the commitment made in the Confraternity, as its current directions expressly require.
- Membership commitments include a daily Rosary decade and the Confraternity prayer, and arranging an annual Mass for its intentions.
The work and its conditions
A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.
Conditions common to every indulgence
The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.
Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.
Time required
Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.
Actual confraternity enrollment
Complete the prescribed event
Full rite or event; duration varies
Complete the actual admission procedure, rite or event specified by this grant. The source sets no fixed duration; follow the organizer’s schedule.
Qualifying membership feast: mental renewal
Duration varies
Mental renewal; no fixed duration prescribed
On the two annual feasts, renew the Confraternity commitment mentally and at least privately. No specific formula or numeric duration is prescribed by the current directions. The editorial’s separate announcement of a Mass offered for members does not impose attendance at that particular Mass.
Timing sources
- Confraternity of Saint Peter — February 2026 editorialFinal paragraph before news: the 22 February plenary grant requires mentally renewing the membership commitment privately, with the usual conditions.
- Confraternity of Saint Peter — June 2026 editorialConcluding editorial paragraph: the Saints Peter and Paul plenary grant requires mental renewal of the Confraternity commitment, with the usual conditions.
What the time estimate excludes
- Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work
- Separate fulfillment of the usual plenary conditions, except prayers or Mass expressly included in the branch.
- The daily decade and confraternity prayer and annual Mass are continuing membership commitments; the required feast-day mental renewal is included above.
Occasion and source notes
Dates show customary Roman or proper religious-family celebrations. Follow lawful liturgical transfers and the grant’s own local calendar. Membership, place, frequency and other conditions remain necessary.
The official Confraternity’s June 2024 newsletter confirms that the 18 October 2022 decree removed the grants’ former time restriction. The original signed 2022 decree was not inspected. The membership form still reproducing a 2008 seven-year concession is superseded for validity evidence by this express current renewal statement. The Confraternity’s February and June 2026 French editorials expressly require mental renewal of the membership commitment on the two feasts; the shorter German and UK listings do not repeat that act. The admission route and partial-indulgence route are not broadened or given an additional renewal requirement here.
