Holy Face Archconfraternity: enrollment and feasts

Current Felician publications reproduce a post-reform grant for members of their Tours-affiliated Holy Face confraternity.

Time required Actual enrollment varies; no separate timed exercise is prescribed for the feasts.

Where
The documented Kraków Felician confraternity, affiliated to the Archconfraternity at Tours.
Who
Enrolled members of this affiliated confraternity; no independent grant for every Holy Face prayer or medal is asserted.
Application
Self or the departed

The prescribed work

  1. Be actually enrolled in the confraternity, not merely a devotee of the Holy Face.
  2. Membership duties include daily Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be with the Holy Face invocation, wearing its medal/cross/scapular, and promoting the devotion as able.
  3. Fulfill the usual plenary conditions: confession, Communion, prayer for the Pope’s intentions, and complete detachment from sin.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.

Time required

Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.

Duration varies

No fixed duration is prescribed

The source prescribes no separate timed exercise for this occasion. Follow all membership and usual plenary conditions; their practical time varies.

Timing sources
What the time estimate excludes
  • Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work
  • Separate fulfillment of the usual plenary conditions, except prayers or Mass expressly included in the branch.
  • Daily Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and invocation, and wearing the devotional object, are continuing membership duties.

Occasion and source notes

The Holy Face date follows the Kraków province’s explicit Polish novena schedule and feast notice: Friday before Ash Wednesday (Easter − 51 days). The museum’s English translation says Tuesday; this discrepancy is retained, and this local Friday observance is not generalized to other Holy Face associations. Follow any lawful change in the confraternity’s proper calendar.
