The prescribed work

  1. Be an actual eligible Knight or Dame of this Order.
  2. Make or renew, at least privately, the promise faithfully to observe the Order’s statutes.
  3. Do so on the day of reception into the Order, 23 April (Saint George) or 14 September (Exaltation of the Holy Cross).
  4. Fulfill the usual plenary conditions, including complete detachment from sin.

The work and its conditions

A plenary indulgence also requires complete detachment from every sin, sacramental confession, Holy Communion, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions, subject to the grant’s stated exceptions. The ordinary limit is one plenary indulgence per day.

Conditions common to every indulgence

The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.

  • Separate fulfillment of the usual plenary conditions, except prayers or Mass expressly included in the branch.
Stated start
23 May 2023
Editorial review due
10 May 2030. This is not a legal expiry date.

Occasion and source notes

These are the dates expressly listed in the institutional decree translation; follow any competent directions for the Order’s lawful liturgical observance.

The signed 23 May 2023 Latin rescript renews the 10 May 2016 concession for another seven years. A conservative review checkpoint is set for 10 May 2030, without claiming a precise inclusive expiry date. The current institutional publication supplies the full member-work directions; its prose incorrectly calls the older decree 20 May, while the signed renewal identifies 10 May. The death provision refers to universal Manual concession 12 and is not treated as a separate exemption.
