Confraternity of Saint Peter: pious and charitable works
Perform a work of piety or charity in your capacity as an enrolled member of the Confraternity of Saint Peter.
Time required Complete the actual pious or charitable work; duration varies.
- When
- Whenever an enrolled member performs the qualifying pious or charitable work.
- Where
- Wherever the actual qualifying work is performed.
- Who
- Enrolled Catholic members of the Confraternity of Saint Peter, age 14 or older; the grant includes laypeople and priests.
- Application
- Self or the departed
The prescribed work
- Be actually enrolled in the Confraternity of Saint Peter.
- Perform a work of piety or charity in your capacity as a member, with at least a contrite heart and the ordinary dispositions for a partial indulgence.
- The Confraternity’s ongoing membership commitments are a daily Rosary decade and its prayer, and arranging one Mass each year for its intentions. These membership commitments are not a newly imposed separate prayer formula for every charitable act.
The work and its conditions
The general requirements include at least a general intention, the state of grace by the completion of the work, and a contrite heart. Complete the work as prescribed.
Conditions common to every indulgence
The person gaining an indulgence must be baptized, not excommunicated, and in the state of grace at least when the prescribed works are completed. There must be at least a general intention to gain indulgences, and the prescribed work must be performed at the time and in the manner required by the grant.
Read the full conditions and norms. The cited grant and its specific provisions govern.
Time required
Read each branch with its own conditions. An editorial estimate is not a prescribed minimum.
Pious or charitable work performed as a Confraternity member
Duration varies
Time depends on the actual qualifying work
No fixed minimum is prescribed. The grant covers different works, so no single completion estimate is justified. Complete the chosen work in the required capacity and with the proper dispositions.
Timing sources
- Confraternity of Saint Peter: General Chaplain’s indulgence directionsSigned P. Stefan Reiner FSSP, General Chaplain: section B, partial indulgences for works of piety or charity performed as a member; section A separately lists plenary conditions.
- Confraternity of Saint Peter: June 2024 official newsletterPage 8: expressly attributes unrestricted continuation of both listed plenary and partial grants to the 18 October 2022 decree.
What the time estimate excludes
- Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work
- Ongoing daily and annual membership commitments, except insofar as a particular qualifying work itself consists of that devotion
Occasion and source notes
The official June 2024 newsletter expressly reports that the 18 October 2022 decree removed the grants’ former time restriction. Its general-condition heading is clarified by the General Chaplain’s current directions, which put the sacramental plenary conditions in section A and this partial work in separate section B. The original signed 2022 decree was not inspected. A still-linked 2023 enrollment form reproduces the original 2008 seven-year text and is not used to establish present validity.
