About 1–5 minutes for the renewal within the Easter Vigil
No fixed minute minimum is prescribed. This editorial estimate concerns the renewal of baptismal promises, which must take place in the Easter Vigil celebration. It is not an estimate for the whole Vigil, which takes longer.
What the time estimate excludes
- Ordinary travel to and from the venue, and waiting outside the prescribed work
- Preparation and the ordinary conditions for a plenary indulgence, unless they are themselves part of the prescribed work
Occasion and source notes
The displayed civil date is Holy Saturday in the Western Easter calendar. The work must occur during the actual Easter Vigil, celebrated at night after nightfall and before daybreak on Easter Sunday. A lawful Vigil occurring after civil midnight remains the qualifying celebration.
